Bob Spence (1944-2024) became Principal of the Lancashire Aikikai (Head of Association) in 1998. Following the death of Mr Mucha who had founded the Aikikai in 1967/68 and was its first Principal.
Spence Sensei became ill in September 2023 and was diagnosed with a brain tumour, which was operated on with partial success. Members were delighted to see him and to note his determination, positivity and spirit when Sensei came to the Altrincham course in November 2023 and taught a session, the last one he was able to take.
Spence Sensei has been a huge influence within Lancashire Aikikai, British Aikdo Board and beyond. We will all miss him greatly. We have opened these Appreciation pages for the Aikido Community to collect memories and record our appreciation.
